What to notice beyond letters and numbers
If your child is starting school soon, it is easy to start wondering whether they know enough letters, can write their name or recognise enough numbers.
But there are so many other things I would be watching first.
Can they organise their body during movement? Follow a couple of instructions? Keep going when something feels tricky? Manage everyday routines with a little more independence? Join in with other children? Cope with the tiredness, frustration and change that can come with starting school?
In this practical one-hour parent webinar, I will help you step back from the academic checklists and look at some of the everyday foundations that can make school participation easier.
We will look at:
- movement, balance, bilateral coordination and body awareness
- visual tracking and the physical foundations for sitting and concentrating
- following instructions and staying with an activity
- independence with everyday school routines
- what to notice when your child becomes frustrated, worried or overwhelmed
- confidence, separation and adjusting to a new environment
- simple activities you can try at home without turning home into another classroom
Who is this for?
Parents and carers of children preparing to start school, particularly if you keep finding yourself wondering:
“Are they actually ready?”
You do not need to wait until something becomes a major concern. Sometimes noticing the little things early gives us useful information about where a child may simply need some extra practice and support.
You will leave with:
A clearer idea of what school readiness can look like in everyday life, what your child is already doing well, what may need a little more support, and practical things you can start doing at home.

That’s completely fine. Everyone who purchases the webinar will receive access to the replay, so you can watch it at a time that suits your family.
This webinar is designed to provide general education and practical ideas for families. It does not replace individual developmental, medical or allied health assessment.
School readiness is about much more than what your child knows. Let’s look at how they move, participate, cope, connect and learn.
